Poetic Moment: Elementary Identity

Elementary Identity

I am made of Earth; my body earthly dust.
Fashioned into form by divinity I trust.

I am made of Water. Responding to the moon.
Seeming solid, mostly liquid, everything attunes.

I draw life from Wind; breath animates this tent.
Loving Spirit blesses me with inspiration lent.

I spark life through Fire; my passions and my power.

Sheer force of will makes visions real; burns brighter every hour.

I exist essentially in elemental form.
Animated earth and water, wind and fire storm.
Elements assembled here, right in this place and time.
Yet something more is needed to change basic to sublime.

Seeking to demystify what more there is to be.
Traversing the chasm wide reveals the mystery.
Mystical the energy, fulfilling is the vibe.
Sharing life and love with friends makes me fully alive.

We are so much more than we realize. We move this animated body through time and space and build a life from the puzzle pieces handed to us, but are we truly satisfied with the life we are living? Are we living according to our true nature and fully expressing what we are here to share?

With this poem, I explore the elements of our make up --- mind, body, and soul -- and our oneness with all that is. This poem is about our energy, our most powerful and valuable resource, our brilliance and wisdom that we are inherited from our Creator, and our physical form, which emerges from and fades back into the void in due time.

What is noticeably absent is how our body looks. This is something that might seems so important when we focus on fitting in within our culture, but at our essence, our appearance loses its importance and we can just... be.

What is also present for me in this poem is the power of community to amplify the energy of who we are. We are amazing creatures "fearfully and wonderfully made" and have much to contribute to the advancement of civilization. May we all realize the fullness of our potential!

"I praise you because I'm fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

Psalm 139: 14
